TL;DR — How to Complete Image Upload Tasks
To get the best results and help the AI grade your work accurately:
-
Write clearly and darkly on plain white paper (black or blue pen works best).
-
Take a well-lit, straight-on photo — no shadows or glare.
- Crop your image so it includes only what the task asks for — no names, notes, or extra text — and make sure it’s visible, centered, and upright.
-
Upload it as a
.jpg,.png, or.webpfile.

Some Stemble tasks ask you to draw a diagram, label a process, or show your work by uploading an image. These tasks are automatically graded by our AI — so making sure your image is clear and easy to read is key. Here’s how to get the best results.
✏️ Step 1: Draw Your Work
- Use plain white paper — lined or coloured paper can confuse the AI.
- Write clearly and darkly (black or blue pen works best).
- Keep your drawing centred on the page and leave some space around the edges.
- Make sure labels and text are legible — print instead of cursive if possible.
📷 Step 2: Take a Clear Photo
- Use your phone camera — no scanners or screenshots needed.
- Place your paper on a flat, well-lit surface (natural daylight is ideal).
- Hold your camera directly above the paper, not at an angle.
- Avoid shadows, glare, and blur — if it looks fuzzy to you, it’ll look fuzzy to the AI too.
✂️ Step 3: Crop and Check Your Image
- Crop out any extra text, names, or unrelated content. Upload only what’s asked for in the task.
- Make sure your image is visible, centered, and upright before submitting.
- Cropping helps the AI focus on exactly what it needs to grade — and nothing else.
💾 Step 4: Upload Your Image
- Upload one clear photo per question unless the instructions say otherwise.
- The system accepts .jpg, .jpeg, and .png files.
- If you’re using an Apple device, your image might be saved as a .HEIC file, which the AI can’t read yet. You’ll need to convert it before uploading — and remember, renaming the file won’t work.
- Check out our Troubleshooting: Converting .HEIC or .PDF Files guide for quick, easy steps to fix it.
💡 Pro Tips
- Double-check your upload before submitting — you can re-upload if it looks blurry or sideways.
- The AI focuses on clarity, accuracy, and completeness — not artistic skill.
- If your image gets flagged or graded unexpectedly, reach out to our support team with your course name, assignment name, and task number so we can take a look.
